Florida SARC Small Animal Emergency Sheltering Course - Level 1 - Awareness

Description

Florida State Animal Response Coalition FL SARC, in partnership with Good Mews Animal Foundation are pleased to offer the Level 1 Awareness Level Small Animal Disaster and Emergency Sheltering class.


Topics include:

The Disaster Process

Understanding how disasters are managed 

Preparing for Deployment

Checklists and considerations so you are ready when needed 

Building a Temporary Emergency Shelter

Strategies for shelter location and design, basic equipment assembly 

Animal Behaviors

General understanding of animal behaviors including

facial expressions and stresses 

Daily Care

Skills and procedures to provide daily care of animals 

Diseases and Parasites

Processes and skills for recognizing and reporting illness 

Cleaning and Disinfecting

Consideration procedures and options to limit spread of disease

Tear Down & Clean Up

Processes during tear down to improve readiness for the next disaster

Prerequisites: 18 years of age or older*

*Students 16-18 may register with parent or guardian


This Awareness Level (Level 1) class will give you the knowledge and practical experience you need to work in an emergency animal shelter and become a FL SARC Responder or part of GOODMEWS new Disaster Response Program.
