Florida SARC Small Animal Emergency Sheltering Course - Level 1 - Awareness
The Florida State Animal Response Coalition in partnerships w/ Charlotte County Emergency Management and office of Animal Control, FDACS & FL SART, are pleased to offer a Grant Funded, FDME Certified Awareness Level Small Animal Disaster and Emergency Sheltering Course in Charlotte County, Florida.
The Introductory Level of Emergency Animal Sheltering Course Topics-
The Disaster Process - Basic ICS
Understanding how disasters are managed
Preparing for Deployment
Checklists and considerations so you are ready when needed
Building a Temporary Emergency Shelter
Strategies for shelter location and design, basic equipment assembly
Animal Behaviors
General understanding of animal behaviors including
facial expressions and stresses
Daily Care
Skills and procedures to provide daily care of animals
Diseases and Parasites
Processes and skills for recognizing and reporting illness
Cleaning and Disinfecting
Consideration procedures and options to limit spread of disease
Tear Down & Clean Up
Processes during tear down to improve readiness for the next disaster
Prerequisites: Age 18+
This Awareness Level (Level 1) class will give you the knowledge, expertise and practical experience you need to work in an emergency animal shelter.
