For the Love of Paws (in conjunction with Fellsmere City Hall) is hosting the 2 day FL-SARC Operations Level Small Animal Emergency Sheltering Class on Saturday, February 3 and Sunday, February 4, 2018.Please join the Florida State Animal Response Coalition team, and with your help, we can be there to provide shelter and care for Florida's animals before, during and after a disaster.Operations level will give you many new job options, in addition to leadership skills and team lead opportunities. Tuition for this class has been paid by a generous grant from the Florida Department of Emergency Management. Costs are incurred for each participant who registers. FL-003-RESP: Small Animal Emergency Sheltering: Awareness Level (Level 1)Course Description: This Awareness Level class gives students the knowledge necessary to work in an emergency animal shelter. This class provides expertise and practical experience required to becomea professional disaster animal responder. Florida State Agricultural Response Team (SART/ESF 17) and Florida's Integrated Rapid Response Team (FLIRRT/ESF 11) have teamed up to bring you an excellent training opportunity. This training will bring together our ESF 17 and ESF 11 responders, within a tabletop exercise, to learn about the unique challenges that we can face in planning and responding to animal, agricultural and food related disasters.This management level course will provide the background information needed to lead a multi-agency team of emergency planners in the development of an Emergency Support Functions (ESF) annex for food and/or animal related disasters to supplement their community?s existing Emergency Operation Plans. The course will address topics such as agroterrorism; detection and diagnosis; the unique challenges that rural communities face in planning for and responding to food and/or animal related disasters; utilization of ESF; recovery and the importance of sustainable operations during a disaster event; and mapping a community to identify areas of vulnerability and resources. All content will be presented at an all-day instructor led training that will include presentations and problem-solving activities that will be completed in small groups. |
