Workshop and Training Program

Hosted by the Florida State Agricultural Response Team (SART) and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the 2025 SART Planning Workshop is a statewide conference serving Florida's county emergency management professionals and SART partner agencies. The purpose of the conference is to present a statewide forum where SART leaders and experts in the fields of animal care and agriculture can share best practices and resources for integrating animal care and agriculture into disaster planning. This year's event is structured to provide attendees with certified training sessions focused on emergency preparedness for Animals and Agriculture. The event schedule will begin with the first day as a half day of the selected training, then a full day of FL SART and ESF -17 informational sessions and finishing the conference with the remaining half day of the selected trainings (the second day of training MUST be attended to receive a training certificate). THIS CONFERENCE IS BY INVITATION ONLY. THIS IS NOT AN OPEN CONFERENCE TO THE PUBLIC. PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY.

A save-the-date and invitation was e-mailed to a select list of Florida county and state personnel and SART partner agencies who are directly involved in ESF 17 animal/agricultural issues. Priority is given to the people on this invitation list.

If your name is not on the invitation list, you may still submit a registration application. Please read important information about the Registration Application below.


Hotel Information

Hotel Sponsorship Opportunity:  SART is offering to sponsor a limited number of hotel rooms at the Sirata Beach Resort for our invited guests. This sponsorship will pay for the 2-night hotel room of $148 per night on May 28th and May 29th inclusive of resort fee and parking fee and will include the specially offered amenities listed below. This hotel sponsorship does NOT cover any other travel expenses. You can request to be considered for this hotel sponsorship when completing your Registration Application. If approved, a hotel room will be reserved for you.  

Group Rate:  For attendees who do not receive the hotel sponsorship, the Sirata Beach Resort will offer the special group rate of $148 per night for May 28 and May 29, subject to availability.  To reserve your room at the group rate, please call the Sirata Reservation Department directly at 1-800-344-5999 and identify yourself as part of the “2025 SART Planning Conference” group block.  Last day to reserve your room under the group rate is May 22nd. 

Additional nights:  The Sirata Beach Resort is offering a limited number of rooms at the group rate of $148 for two days before the conference (Monday and Tuesday nights)and one day after the conference (Friday night), subject to availability.  You need to make reservations for additional nights as soon as possible.  The additional nights are at your own cost.  Otherwise, you are subject to pay prevailing rates for two additional nights before or after the conference (at the time the reservations/request is made). To reserve additional nights at the group rate, please call the Sirata Reservation Department directly at 1-800-344-5999.

  • After you submit your registration application, the SART conference organizer will review it for approval.
  • You will receive an e-mail from the SART conference organizer within 7 days regarding your approval to attend, confirmation of registration, and hotel sponsorship decision if you selected 'yes' to be considered.

2025 Florida SART Planning Meeting
Presented by the UF College of Veterinarian Medicine (UF CVM VETS Team). This is the foundation course for more advanced levels of our training program. This course is eight (8) hours of Continuing Education credit. This course has been designed to bring together various agencies in a community to aid in networking and connecting resources. Participants will get an overview of the need for animal technical rescue, resources to activate, how to assist rescue teams, scene safety in animal emergencies, and common techniques and tools used in responses. Target audience is livestock owners, Fire/Search and Rescue, Animal Control, Veterinary Professionals, other livestock stakeholders, and Extension Agents.
Presented by the FL State Animal Response Coalition (SARC). This awareness level class will give you knowledge, expertise and practical experience you need to work in an emergency/evacuation animal shelter. This course is eight (8) hours of Continuing Education credit. This course is also required to become a deployment member of FL SARC's incident response team. This course is FEMA approved and certified/accredited by the Florida Division of Emergency Management.

Presented by Dr. L. Garcia from the UF CVM VETS Team. This series of presentations is designed to support animal and agricultural first responders by enhancing their preparedness, response capabilities, safety, and well-being. Topics include:

"How to prepare for disaster": Preparing yourself, family, pets, home, and workplace for anticipated and unanticipated disasters.

"Common disasters and Response types": Discusses disaster types, their impacts on animals, and adaptable response strategies. Includes UF VETS resources.

"Emergency Responder safety for hoarding cases": Highlights field adaptations and supplies for managing animal hoarding cases.

"Compassion fatigue Strategies": Helps animal care professionals recognize and address compassion fatigue and build sustainable self-care habits.
